What is Compass 2.0

In November of 2025, Executive Director Kevin Gilmore and the NBUSA Board announced a new Emergency Savings Match Program that will benefit qualifying Nazarene pastors in a great way. It works like this. When a Local Church Minister (LCM) or their church contributes $750 to an Emergency Savings Account, NBUSA will now provide an additional $750 to create a $1,500 fund to help the pastor better respond to sudden financial needs.

Dr. Larry McKain, Executive Director of COMPASS had been in constant conversation with Kevin Gilmore over the past two years about keeping the momentum of COMPASS working toward ministers’ well-being after the Lilly grant funds have been exhausted for the COMPASS 1.0 program. Partnering on the COMPASS 2.0 program is the first of what NBUSA hopes will be multiple steps in that direction.

To receive the NBUSA match, the Local Church Minister must complete the 90-minute COMPASS 2.0 Financial Wellness course, meet the same benefit eligibility requirements as the 403(b) match program, and the local church support of the NBUSA Fund must be at least 50%. As the first action towards developing a sound financial plan, this new initiative to establish Emergency Savings Accounts will help to protect ministers and their families from unexpected expenses and reduce their vulnerability to financial hardship. Participation is limited to 400 ministers per year on a first-come, first-served basis.

In partnership with NBUSA and Districts, our commitment as a COMPASS Leadership Team is to serve you with excellence in everything we do, if there is any way we can do that better, please contact us.
